160 years after the first YMCA opened its doors in D.C., a new center named for founder Anthony Bowen will honor the past and celebrate the future.

Jun. 23, 2012 – Founder’s Day – Sixty men met this day in 1852 and founded the YMCA of the City of Washington
Jun. 28, 2012 – Charter Day – President Abraham Lincoln signed the charter this day in 1864
Jul. 26, 2012 – Thingamajig Invention Convention
Oct. 2012 – Opening of YMCA Anthony Bowen, the first African American YMCA in the world
Nov. 22, 2012 – YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase’s 30th Annual Turkey Chase
